IMMUNIZATIONS AND FLU SHOTS FOR KIDS

Should My Child Get Immunizations?

Immunization is the process by which an individual’s immune system becomes fortified against an immunogen. When a foreign body is introduced to your immune system, your body’s instinct is to fight that agent and get rid of it. Immunizations help the body protect itself from specific diseases that your body may come in contact with at some point in time. Immunizations are given for most diseases, and are usually administered through injection in the upper arm, thigh, or buttocks.

Our staff is made up of trained professionals that are able to distribute various vaccines including:

It is very important that children receive immunizations because their immune systems are not as well developed or equipped to fight diseases. The fewer children that are immunized, the more chance of infection spreading once a child becomes sick. If a less common infection is passed from child to child it could develop into an epidemic. For this reason, the best thing for parents to do is get their children immunized for both their benefit and the community’s.

Southwest Urgent Care & Family Practice can also administer flu shots for kids along with immunizations. Each year the timing for when a flu vaccine would be most beneficial differs and now may be better than later. Flu season is normally around early October and can last until late May. In the United States, the flu season usually peaks between December and February, according to the Center of Disease Control (CDC). It is recommended that the shot be administered as soon as it is available in your area. It takes approximately two weeks for the antibodies that fight immunogens to develop in your body to help you avoid getting the flu.
